On the 18th of February, four athletes from the Academic Association of the University of Minho (AAUMinho) attended the National University Championship of Karate, in Felgueiras. The Minho Academy climbed the podium three times.
The only female athlete present, Ana Marques, won the silver medal, after finishing second in the women’s <55 kg category.
Regarding the men’s competition, João Ribeiro and Diogo Leite competed in the <60 kg category. João Ribeiro was crowned national university champion, after reaching first place, followed by Diogo Leite who won the bronze medal.
In the men’s <75 kg category, the athlete Gonçalo Freitas competed and finished fifth place.
In this way, The Minho Academy added three medals, more specifically a gold, a silver and a bronze medal.
